TAKE A BITE AND TASTE YOUR FEAR

So I must tell you this wonderful story that my Art teacher told us...

she had a dream, and in the dream... she was lying on a blank bed in a dark room, no covers or sheet, then there was a line of ants crawling and crossing over her body, she realized it and got up hurrily to dust them off... but turn around to see a giant shiny furious Scorpion coming towards her... there was somehow a stick beside the bed, she used it to poke and push the scorpion away...

she finally got under it and pierce the stick through its stomach! she threw the scorpion out the window, outside the window was this court yard of a town, people casually walking by, but in center there is a stair going down. The scorpion landed in the stairs and slowly fell down...

she then turns around in the room and yet another giant hungry Scorpion coming towards her... but suddenly... all the dogs from her childhood memories came running in and start biting and tearing up the scorpion and ate it.


she said that the dream was symbolic to show, that don't be scared. Take a BITE and TASTE your fear! it's a never ending circle, no matter how much you struggle, it will be more coming... so why not make use of what you learn through the struggle!

Speaking of Scorpion....

I have new work from PRINT-MAKING class to show!

PRINT-MAKING spring '08
ASSIGNMENT: carve self-portrait, on the linoleum matrix. Using only black ink. For a black and white print.

My idea is not to typically draw a face as self portrait, but my hand instead... like a synecdoche: a part represents the whole.

putting my back into it! lol. it's really tricky and you can cut yourself easily. Jessica and our new puppy Milo, keeping me company!


we then roll the black ink on the carved matrix,
put it under this board foam, then use the BIG wheel to roll it through so it'll print...

we had to print 5 copies. So this will be 5 limited unique copies
and we must number them like 1/5, 2/5, 3/5 etc...

okay first of all... I purposely rolled the ink light for the sky because it gives that atmospheric, astrology feel with the moon and little hints of stars.

WHAT'S BEHIND ALL THIS?!
- So when we received the assignment, to do a self-portrait, I didn't want just to do a typical picture of myself, so instead a part represents the whole.

I split the image into 2 because if I was to describe how I am right now in life, that's it right there! in BETWEEN... not Here, but not There, dreaming about that day when my life will begin. The bottom has spirals and swirls to show the craziness that i'm in, but yet still reaching out to breathe...

and all the mark-making varies from my hands, to the spirals, and the sky. The carvings on my hands are similar to the Scorpion is because it's within me. My sign is scorpio.

Notice there gap between the trees, it's not divided, sorta like a shortcut which I shouldn't use... because we all have to play this game called life fairly.
