COOKING WITH QUANNIE: EPISODE 1

Alright, so you know I love to cook. I've been cooking like mad ever since I moved to New York (check out the baked curry buns/puffs: here), I guess because I don't have my mom around to cook for me here, which means I have to look after myself. I've never really cooked in my life until now the past few months, whipping up dishes that I have learned from growing up watching my mom. I guess it's only when you're away from your parents, you realize how much values and lessons they have instilled in you. Also, I think cooking is quite therapeutic, you should try doing it... a good way to be independent too!

For this week, my mission was to cook Thịt Kho (Vietnamese Braised Pork). Mind you, this is my first time cooking it but the recipe was super simple so I was more than ready! And mission was possible, it was a success! All you need is pork belly, coconut soda (preferably CoCo Rico brand), fish sauce, garlic, (brown) sugar, and for my own personal taste, I also added extra fried tofu and eggs, for this one I used quail eggs but any eggs are fine. There isn't exact measures since it's very "eye-based" and add as you cook.

Pacific! — Unspoken (Anoraak Remix)

ingredients: pork belly, fish sauce, coconut soda, garlic, (brown) sugar, eggs, fried tofu

slicing up the pork belly, it's bacon essentially, but just fresh fatty meat

I'm slicing while thinking in my head: "THIS BETTER WORK!"

put the pork belly + garlic + coconut soda + fish sauce in pot
browning the sugar til it's thick and brown AKA thick browning sauce

put thick browning sauce in // add enough water to the level of the meat /// add eggs+tofu

let it all cook for about 45 minutes... and VOILÀ! Ready to eat!

I ate mine with fresh cucumbers + white rice, with a TsingTao beer to drink!

GUURRRLLLL. IT WAS SO GOOD!
