FIND TRUTH IN YOUR STRUGGLE

Let's play catch up, shall we?
I know I've been missing in action for a while but then again, who do I really need to explain to? No one. If you follow my blog and you know my work, you should already understand. New York City is as every bit of the "concrete jungle" as Alicia and Jay-Z said it would be. And I don't want it any other way. I occasionally get very homesick though. I miss my friends and family, and being able to enjoy doing nothing.

My lack of updates are simply due to being busy working and surviving and thriving. However, I don't want that to be my focus in life: to work (like a machine) and save... FOR WHAT?! The future is now. Happiness is priceless to me. With that being said, I turned in my 2 Weeks Notice at work last week. Yikes. I know. Scared? Maybe. Excited? Fuck yes.

I met up with a good friend of mine the other night for dinner, and we both have the same "urban nomad" mentality, in the sense that we'll always be in perpetual motion; always propelling forward. Past, future, and present. He mentioned that you know, sometimes struggling is a great thing, and we have to look inside of that struggle and find that thing that's worth struggling for. You gotta find truth in your struggle.

And so, a lot has happened the past 3 months. I think it's only fair to catch you up and with a short and sweet summary. And also my 3 uniforms that I literally lived in for the past 3 months. Maximum comfort and versatility; I wear it to work and to the gym in one shot.

UPGRADED

It has all come down to this: my life in a clear box. I finally (!) got my expired license renewed into a New York State license. Woo hoo! #OFFICIAL. New Social Security card replacement. An iPhone 5 after carrying my shattered iPhone 4 for over a year. And there's my little passport waiting to be taken on that lifetime adventure...

REORGANIZED

I've been dressing in black and white, and monochromatic colors a lot as you can tell. I think living here in New York and being overly exposed to all kinds of craziness, I just feel the need to revert back to streamlined but key dressing. Plus it's nice to always reorganize and reevaluate.

3 UNIFORMS. 3 MONTHS.

I know. I know. You're probably thinking I can't possibly wear just only these 3 outfits in the past 3 months, nope... but majority of the time, yes. Not specifically like how it's styled in the photos because I switch up the pants, or the shirts, or the jackets to vary different days, ya know? Live light + less.

wearing American Apparel pullover • western hat • Versace for H&M jacket • H&M harem pants • Margiela for H&M shoes • vintage Coach bag • Timex watch + vintage bracelet

wearing Leather baseball cap • NIKE sweatshirt • H&M tshirt (underneath) • Uniqlo pants • NIKE shoes • Urban Outfitters backpack • Timex watch + vintage bracelet

wearing H&M faux-leather cap + bomber jacket + sweatpants + button-down shirt • PUMA Sky II shoes • Timex watch + vintage bracelet

when I first bought these shoes 5 years ago, I didn't like them, but I learned to love them,
and now it is a staple in my comfort dressing. Beautiful!

  1. Hey, welcome back! I've missed your posts.

You're always such an inspiration, wow. Maybe I'm a little biased to monochromatic outfits haha, but while everyone's following all the trends, you stick to your style and do it sooo well.

Good to hear that things are going well for you. :-)

  3. Oh my gosh Quan. I have missed you and your inspirational posts. I have missed your artwork and I still revert back to the days when you did illustrations in your home with your family. This has truly opened my eyes to everything in life. Now that I am out of school, I am still pondering things that I want to do. I gave my two weeks notice a while back ago to both of my jobs (2 to be exact) because it didn't make me happy. Sitting at home wondering what it is that I want to do in life - work or do stuff that actually makes me happy. I thought about being self-employed and make things that I want to make (and not just fashion stuff either).

In fact, I think I found myself in school. I don't want to sell clothes. I want to do things more home-related. More interior design stuff. Makes me want to travel the world and see how different cultures live. You have always been an inspiration to me and I want to constantly thank you for that.

Thanks for always being so upbeat no matter the situation is laid in your hands. Thanks for always being so positive about life. Thanks for keeping it real.

    Your biggest fan,
    Michelle
