HEART STATION

I've been so damn busy.

Here's a recent project for PRINT-MAKING class. We have to do CMYK color separation.

This project, I tried to illustrate Utada Hikaru's new song, called HEART STATION. It's about our heart acting as RADIO STATIONS, and sends out signals to the people we love and miss. It can also be interpreted like a bus bus station of our hearts....

PROCESS:

this is the original picture with the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) separations

if you click on Chanels beside the Layers box on Photoshop, they did it for you, just print that out.


all the 4 layers printed out on transparencies to be exposed.


after the emulsion dries, we expose each layer on the screen to print them in that color.


I printed the Cyan/Blue layer first, in that order, C M Y K...


now, I am printing the Magenta/Red layer on top of that blue....


gotta press the squeechy down ingrain the ink


see? now the the Red and Blue layers are blend together.. really nice color!





ON CRITIQUE DAY! adding last minute touches! This one print has all 4 layers on it. CMYK.


we always make 5 prints, and label them like 1/5, 2/5, etc... and that other one only have yellow + magenta.


close-up. I used illustrator to vector out the buses and print on transparencies to expose it on the screen, then print from the screen. BUT I did drew the power poles. I also draw the sparkles on a lot of my artwork. LOL


close-up. I used the pages in phone-book and drew this guy on there. The phone book is like all those people out there, we send signals out from our Heart Station....


1) The guy's heart is connected with the cassette tape. and Utada is a singer, so instead of a real heart, I used Cassette Tape, because Music is her heart! The song is about our hearts are like radio stations, it sends out signals to the people we miss and love. But it can be interpreted as a bus station too.

2) The cassette tape and buses are all printed on silk-screen. I exposed the tape as it was.

3 The text are printed from silk-screen, as well as the little japanese lyrics of the song too. =)

4) The phonebook listing of people gives off that nostalgic feeling and all those people out there sending signals or thinking of their love ones from the heart station.
