Guess what?! I finally bought my concert ticket to see Lady GaGa's show in New York City this coming January 21st... It was SOLD OUT under 10 minutes, so I had to end up buying it from a re-seller. It was pricey, but worth it! UGH!!! I did it for love.
The reason why I love GaGa is because she is a true artist, not just a singer, but an artist. She actually knows her Art History quite well. Right now I'm studying Contemporary Art History and we talk about Abstract Expressionism, Modernism, Minimalism, and artists like Duchamp, Magritte, Pollock and Pop Art of Andy Warhol, etc... and how Fame is part of the drive in Pop Art, we see how the critics brought Pollock up just to bring him down so low... and eventually led to his death, just like fame, it's supposed to be a beautiful creation, but it could turn monstrous, that's why GaGa named her 2nd album The Fame Monster, so you gotta own the fame, rather than let it own you. Do it because you love it, whatever you believe in, stand by it 100%.
I also studied about Sartre and his philosophy about existentialism. We are here for ourselves, our decisions make our characters!! I love the idea that... trying to make sense of the world is a struggle, and struggle and battle is important for an artist. Creativity and alienation are tied together, it goes hand in hand... which is why I think it's okay to feel out of place, who wants to fit in the mold anyway?! I feel comfortable being an outsider because I am my own entity, I don't need to be justified by anyone.

ReplyDeleteYou know, the first time I even heard of Gaga I was flipping through channels and a mere glimpse of her then newly released video for "Just Dance" caught my eye. I had gone past the channel but I went back to it. I kept watching... I liked the beat, I liked the lyrics, the video was pretty different, her aesthetic was definetely different. To be honest I kind of just dismissed her, mostly because Akon was endorsing her (I'm not a fan of his.) Anyway I kept seeing more and more of her and I took notice of how she really wasn't trying to fit it. She was just honestly and truely herself. I thought to myself, "finally, someone to change things up!" Needless to say she's done just that. I do like her very much. I hope you have fun at her concert.

yes Jesse, I edit it all by myself. I have a hard time finding people who share the same creative vision as me and my aesthetics, so I end up doing and learning to do everything by myself... as you can see by the SELF-TIMER. I enjoy my solitude.
